Upcoming and modern bars across the globe have really taken to the largest talking point of the 21st century…global warming. You see many bars going plastic free or using companies who are eco friendly or even just socially aware of which companies are paying their tax!
At Sandy’s we are now moving forward with how we operate, how we can be more environmentally friendly and sustainable. We are now just over 6 months into opening so have the opportunity to cut down on these things. Not only should a company look into these methods of protecting the environment but it is also financially viable and let’s be honest, any business owner should be wanting to do this. So what makes a company sustainable? There are certain ways you can go about this:
- Eliminating straws: From this month we will be removing straws from our drinks. This is a step that a lot of bars seem to take. There are paper straws that larger companies are using but this ruins the flavour of the drink. Definitely a market out there for a biodegradable straw then doesn’t inflict the flavour of the drink
- No napkins: An unnecessary waste. If a cloth is needed for spillage then that’s what they are there for. How many times do we see a napkins being served with a drink and the napkins thrown to one side…countless. Get rid or the unnecessary.
- Trash as tools!: This is a strange one. If you’ve been to Sandy’s you will see our cork tree immediately. Instead of the corks we open from Champagne or Prosecco being thrown away we keep them and decorate our tree with them. Similarly we use empty wine bottles for juice containers or candles holders. An effect way to limit waste whilst also giving the inside of Sandy’s and warm and cosy feel.
There is a great website (http://www.trashtikisucks.com/blog/) which shows how you can use fruit waste to make beautiful and delicious recipes. It’s great to see so many bars do it and about time smaller and more local bars to this area start making tracks
